In those instances, team members need to learn to relate to each other before they finally reach the peak of their performance. Unless this happens, collaboration is often characterized by uncertainty and later by conflicts or disputes. In those times, teams make hardly any progress and performance suffers. But even teams that work together permanently, can undergo such phases again and again. Therefore, teams do not only need time to work, but also time for their development: to remain efficient and competitive for the long run while they release their creative potential for innovations. It doesn’t matter how qualified the team members are. Rather, what matters is how the team succeeds in shaping its collaboration.
